2014 Welcomes New School Board; Doy, Simpson Elected to Lead; District Still Working to Determine Next Bond

A new school board took the reigns last Thursday night, January 9, 2014, at its first meeting of the year.

Marci Busby was sworn in for her new 4-year term and Tavish MacLean was sworn in as the first director of the new Snoqualmie-only school board seat created by 2011 state-mandated re-districting.

Another new face was also welcomed.  Mount Si High School junior, Adrienne Barnhart, was sworn is as a new student representative to the school board. She joins Duncan Deutsch who has been serving as a student representative since last year.

New Snoqualmie Valley School Board leadership was also elected by its members. Geoff Doy will serve as School Board President for 2014 and Carolyn Simpson will serve as Vice President.

The school board is still working to determine the next school bond to be put  before Snoqualmie Valley voters.

On January 23rd, in a work session before its next regularly scheduled meeting, school board members will further discuss community feedback regarding possible bond option A that would remodel/expand Mount Si High and move the freshman campus to the main high school campus, use the current Freshman Campus building for a 3rd middle school, build a 6th elementary school on Snoqualmie Ridge and preform work on existing school facilities.

The school board and administration presented details about option A in a series of December community meetings, where about 175 people attended.  Still in the vetting process, the district is working to hone and define the next school bond – AND determine a date to put in on the ballot.
