According to the Bellevue Firefighters (IAFF Local 1604) Facebook page, on Friday, February 19, 2016, a family snowboarding day at Snoqualmie Pass turned into a very important, ‘right-time-right-place’ kind of day for off-duty Bellevue Fire Lieutenant Chris Marsh.
Lt. Marsh was washing up in a Snoqualmie Pass lodge restroom when he heard the distinctive sound of a body hitting the floor after a man suffered a sudden heart attack inside a nearby locked bathroom stall.
To reach the man, Lt. Marsh first crawled under the stall door, unlocked it and then drug the man out into the restroom’s sink area where he and another person performed CPR.
After Lt. Marsh directed another individual to call 911, Snoqualmie Pass Ski Patrol members quickly arrived on scene with an Automatic External Defibrillator, which Marsh connected and delivered a life-saving counter-shock that revived the man.
According to the social media post, “Engine 291, Medic 3, Aid 291, and a Kittitas Medic Unit responded, and the victim was treated and transported to a hospital in Issaquah. Fire Lieutenant Marsh’s off duty actions saved the man’s life.”
