The Snoqualmie Police Department is participating in Chief for a Day, and is seeking the community’s help for nominations. The statewide event celebrates the lives of children who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening or chronic illness. This all day event takes place on Thursday, August 18th, at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission (WSCJTC) in Burien.
Chief for a Day Criteria
- A girl or boy between the ages of 3 to 14
- Child resides in the Snoqualmie Valley or surrounding area
- Child is living with a life threatening or chronic illness
The Police Department will present the honorary chief with a hand-tailored uniform, police badge, a gift basket for the family, then transported to the WSCJTC in police cars.
At the event, the children will be sworn in as chiefs, have lunch with attendees and academy recruiters, and participate in an outdoor presentation, which includes SWAT, motorcycle units, Fish and Wildlife, K-9 units, rifle units, and more.
To help the family of the honorary chief offset any medical expensive they may be facing, the Police Department is holding a toy drive and fundraiser with a donation goal of $5,000. A wish list will be announced on the Snoqualmie Police Department Facebook once a child is selected.
The community is encouraged to submit nominations by March 15th to Deanna Mihelich at dmihelich@ci.snoqualmie.wa.us.
