New Snoqualmie Fire Lieutenant
20 years of firefighting service, 17 of those with the City of Snoqualmie, and Matt West was ready to further his firefighting career by becoming a Lieutenant with the Snoqualmie Fire Department.
This week Firefighter West became Fire Lieutenant West at a pinning ceremony during the Snoqualmie City Council Meeting.
Lt. West and his wife moved to the Snoqualmie Valley in 1995 so he could become a volunteer firefighter with Fire District 10 (which is now Eastside Fire & Rescue). He was stationed out of the old Snoqualmie Fire House, which was located where City Hall now stands on River Street, from May 1995 to December 1998.
He is the only current department member who worked for District 10 out at the old station – and tested to become a professional firefighter when the City of Snoqualmie decided to restart its fire department in 1998. West was hired as one of the original seven Snoqualmie Fire Department firefighters.
West and his wife have two children, a 6th and 9th grader, and reside in North Bend. He is a dedicated to his profession of service, keeping inside his class A uniform hat programs of firefighter funerals he has attended during his long career as a way to honor and remember those lost.
Newest Snoqualmie Firefighter
Firefighter Matthew Mundy was also pinned as a new member of the Snoqualmie Fire Department at Monday’s ceremony. He is a 2002 graduate of Cedarcrest High School in Duvall and volunteered with the Duvall Fire Department for four years before taking a professional firefighting position with the Yakima County Fire District last year.
Mundy also worked in Snoqualmie before taking his position in Eastern Washington as the Purchasing Manager for HO Sports Company on Snoqualmie Ridge. He is married with two small children.
