Traffic came to a halt on westbound I-90 near Preston (milepost 22) around 12:45PM, October 9, 2014 – in the same area as another serious collision just a week and a half ago.
The Washington State Patrol stated the cause of the crash is still under investigation, but confirmed for the second time in less than two weeks, a vehicle traveling in the eastbound lanes of I-90 near Preston crossed the grassy median into oncoming westbound traffic, causing a serious, multi-car collision.
I-90 near Preston was blocked by the accident and subsequent investigation for nearly three hours Thursday afternoon, creating a more than two-mile back up. According to the Washington State Patrol collision report, it is [unknown at this time] time if drugs or alcohol were involved.
WSP said three vehicles were involved in the accident. It was triggered when an eastbound traveling GMC Jimmy, driven by a 65-year old North Bend woman, crossed the center grass median and collided head-on with two westbound traveling vehicles. One vehicle came to rest in the left lane and another on the north side of the freeway near Highpoint Way.
Four people were injured in the collision and transported to area hospitals; one in critical condition, two in serious condition and one with minor injuries. Two other people were evaluated and released at the scene. All involved were wearing seatbelts.
