The Snoqualmie Valley is expected to reach the low 90’s Tuesday, July 1, 2014. But the local bodies of water often used to cool many residents down are still cold, some REALLY cold.
So local emergency officials are warning the community to exercise caution in area lakes and especially rivers. Many local drownings happen in early summer due to cold water temperatures, taking swimmers by surprise and allowing hypothermia to set in quickly.
According to a Snoqualmie River fly fishing website, the river is still only 45 degrees. Rattlesnake Lake is better at about 67 degrees.
Reminder: The King County Sheriff’s Office closed a section of the Snoqualmie River near Fall City popular with summertime floaters and boaters. The two-mile closure starts just downstream of the State Route 202 bridge in Fall City and runs to a point about one mile upstream of the Neal Road boat ramp.
Monday, June 30, 2014, two swimmers nearly drowned while swimming at Coulon Park on Lake Washington. The Renton Fire Department responded and brought the swimmers to shore. One was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Stay cool and be safe!
