Mayor Rob McFarland is proud to proclaim June as Pride Month in North Bend. The City of North Bend recognizes how important it is for people in our community to feel safe, valued, empowered, and supported by their peers and community leaders, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, and expression.

Snoqualmie Mayor Katherine Ross agrees, saying, “During Pride Month, we celebrate the diversity, unity, and inclusivity that enriches our community, and we remain committed to treating all people with equity and respect.”
June is celebrated as LGBTQIA+ Pride Month nationwide and in some parts of the world to commemorate the Stonewall Uprising in New York, which occurred in June 1969 and is considered the beginning of the LGBTQIA+ civil rights movement.
According to Wikipedia, in June 1999, President Bill Clinton declared “the anniversary of Stonewall every June in America as Gay and Lesbian Pride Month.” In 2011, President Barack Obama expanded the officially recognized Pride Month to include the whole of the LGBT community.
Pride Month in the Snoqualmie Valley and worldwide raises awareness of the prejudice and discrimination still facing members of the LGBTQIA+ community and celebrates LGBTQIA+ culture.
It also highlights that everyone is entitled to equal rights freely granted to all Americans regardless of race, religion, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
