Born in rural east Texas in 1922, Dave joined the Navy just prior to US involvement in WWII. In January 1946, he first came to the Snoqualmie Valley to attend the wedding of a shipmate and was introduced to his wife, Betty.
They married within weeks, beginning a decades-long life in the Valley. Dave stayed in the Navy reserves after the war, being called up during Korea and Vietnam and working at the mill. Dave and Betty raised four children in Snoqualmie.
After retirement, Dave and Betty loved to travel and were active in the VFW and American Legion. In 1994, Betty died in a car accident that left Dave in ICU at Harborview for nearly a month. After the accident, Dave continued to travel with Betty’s sister Lucille.
Always community-minded, Dave joined the Snoqualmie Valley Veterans memorial committee in the early 2000s and helped see that a memorial was built next to the American Legion Hall. Now, at 99, Dave enjoys regularly going to coffee with the guys at the Bindlestick and spending time with his dog Sam.
The Lake family will be holding a party in his honor from 1-4 pm on Saturday, August 27th, at the Eagles and invites Dave’s friends and acquaintances to stop in for a few to say hello.
