On Saturday, October 19th, the Snoqualmie Indian Tribe hosted its first ever Snoqualmie Tribe Charitable Donations Gala to celebrate the nonprofits it donated funds to this year.
In 2019 the Tribe donated a whopping $1.1 million to over 70 Washington State nonprofit organizations.
“This year the Tribe is celebrating the 20-year anniversary since achieving federal recognition, and reaching that milestone has given us a great opportunity to self-reflect as a tribal community,” Snoqualmie Chairman Robert de los Angeles said at the event.
He added, “The Snoqualmie Tribe prides itself on giving back to the community, because it is a cultural value of ours. The Snoqualmie People have always been here, and will always be here. We are committed to investing in this community.”
The King County Library System Foundation, the Chief Seattle Club, the Environmental Science Center, and Encompass presented at the event, and the Tribe shared its new “Sacred Connections” film, which celebrates the Tribe’s 20th anniversary of achieving federal re-recognition.
“We are excited each year when so many organizations apply to receive these funds,” said Snoqualmie Tribal Council Member Steve De Los Angeles. “We typically have over 250 organizations apply each year, and we’re honored to be able to provide funding to over 70 this year and to support them in the work they are doing for the community.”
Recipient organizations applied in the winter of 2019 for donations awarded to projects and initiatives focused on specific categories including: Veterans, Arts & Culture, Native Services, Family Services, Salmon Habitat Restoration & Protection, Environmental Education, and the Snoqualmie Valley.
“These nonprofit organizations make the Snoqualmie Valley, and greater King County, a better place to live. Our hands go up to these organizations and all of their hard work,” said Snoqualmie Council Member and Treasurer, Christopher Castleberry.
