Hikers rescued near North Bend after becoming stranded in Monday’s snowstorm

The King County Sheriff’s Office said some hikers were very lucky after getting stranded in Monday’s epic snow storm.

According to KCSO, on Monday afternoon, February 11, 2019 four adults and a 3-year old child parked their truck at Dingford Creek Trailhead near North Bend and hiked another six miles to the Goldmyer Hot Springs area. At 7:30PM Monday, they reportedly left the Hot Springs and headed back to their vehicle.

On Tuesday, February 12th, the King County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from the group’s concerned family, saying they had not returned home Monday night as planned. KCSO said the significant snowfall overnight would have made driving out of that area in a vehicle nearly impossible.

Late Tuesday afternoon – around 4:15PM – King County Sheriff’s Office and King County Search and Rescue, with the use of the KCSO Snowcat, located the four adults and child safe in their vehicle awaiting rescue.

KCSO said they had been trapped by the snow and cell phones don’t work in that area. The vehicle had a full tank of gas so they were able to stay warm. They also had food and water with them.

According to KCSO, “Thankfully, no injuries to anyone involved.”
