According to the Office of the King County Sheriff, on the evening of March 9th, 2021, impaired driving became impaired boating for one motorist when her Toyota SUV left SR 203 in Carnation and landed in a pond near the Henna Blueberry Farm.
Deputies assigned to the King County Sheriff’s Office Marine Rescue Dive Unit (MRDU) assisted their partners with the Washington State Patrol (WSP) in rescuing a woman after she swam to a beaver dam.
Her Toyota RAV4, did not fare as well. Deputies on KCSO’s Marine Unit have advanced training in detecting impaired boaters, impaired drivers and water rescue. They don’t often get to showcase all three skills in a single call.
Although this incident ended with no injuries, it serves as a reminder that all we need to be mindful of how alcohol, prescription drugs and other substances can interact and impair driving.
We will learn more as the Washington State Patrol completes its investigation. Drunk driving happens at all times of the day and in every community. Thank you Washington State Patrol and the King County’s Sheriff’s Office for helping keep King County’s highways safe.
