Thanks to a grant from the Snoqualmie Valley Schools Foundation, all SVSD middle and high school students, as well as their 
parents, can learn important cyber safety tips next week, on October 5th and 6th.
Let’s face it, for most teens (and preteens) cell phones are almost an extension of them – seemingly surgically attached. Are you worried about what’s going on inside your child’s oh-so important piece of technology and on the internet?
The Snoqualmie Valley School District is bringing in Stefanie Thomas, Victim Advocate/Community Outreach Coordinator for the Seattle Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, to share her expertise on a variety of serious cyber-safety topics including cyberbullying, social networking, online posting, the reality of teens as targets, texting and driving, dangers of sexting and cell phone and internet safety tips.
Ms. Thomas will visit each SVSD middle and high school on October 5th and then parents of 6th – 12th graders are invited to hear her presentation at a special Parent E-Safety Education Night in the Mount Si High School Auditorium on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 6:30PM.
In addition to Ms. Thomas’s presentation, the district plans to offer information and resources to help parents navigate social media, texting, smart phones and the internet in the fast-paced, ever-changing online world in which kids are growing up.
It’s a chance for parents to learn more about the dangers of the cyber world, and tools and tips to promote safety when it comes to their child’s phone use, texting and online world.
