It’s another busy Saturday in the Snoqualmie Valley. Here’s a few events happening Saturday, May 3, 2014
Arbor Day Celebration & Tree Planting
Join in the Snoqualmie Arbor Day Celebration at the Railroad Park Gazebo, 7871 Railroad Ave SE, on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at 10AM.
Event Timeline:
- 10AM – Mayor Matt Larson will speak and receive Snoqualmie’s First Tree City USA Growth Award from the Department of Natural Resources. There will be games for kids and a tree seedling giveaway. This year’s winner of the kids’ Arbor Day poster contest will also be announced.
- 11:45AM – Citizens are invited to help with the annual Arbor Day tree planting. This year, American sweetgum trees will be planted at Snoqualmie Community Park to replace trees that were lost in the 2011 ice storm. The park is adjacent to the Snoqualmie Valley YMCA at 35016 SE Ridge Street. Participants should wear long pants, closed-toe shoes, gloves, and rain gear as needed. No experience is required.
- 1:45PM – Free tree pruning workshop will be held at Railroad Park. Bring your tree questions City of Snoqualmie Arborist Phil Bennett. Topics include correct tree planting practices, pruning and maintenance, selecting quality nursery stock, right tree/right place and disease problems. Annual Kids’ Fishing Derby
On May 3, 2014, at the ponds behind the Snoqualmie Police Department (corner of Snoqualmie Parkway and SE Douglas ST) from daylight 
until 10AM, it’s the annual Kids’ Fishing Derby.
The Fishing Derby is a free, fun event hosted by the Mt. Si Fish and Game Club. No registration is necessary – just grab the kids, fishing poles and show up – and try to catch the biggest fish in the ponds.
Kids ages 5 to 14 may compete. Those under 5 can fish, just not compete. There’s a two fish limit, with no nets – and NO DOGS are allowed.
Fish weigh-in is from 6:30AM – 10AM. Refreshments will be provided for everyone and prizes awarded to the winners.
Cinco de Mayo Half Marathon, 8k, and Kids 1 Mile
Run Snoqualmie’s annual half marathon, 8K and kids 1 mile fun run happens on the streets of Snoqualmie, Saturday, May 3rd. The start gun sounds at 8:30AM behind Mount Si High School.
The event usually draws about 1,000 runners from all over the state and ends on the track behind Wildcat Stadium. Check in begins at 7AM.
There are lots of street closures, competitors and spectators for the popular event – so bring your patience if trying to drive in the downtown Snoqualmie area Saturday morning.

Free Pet Resource Fair
Saturday, May 3rd, from 1PM – 4PM at the Mt. Si Senior Center, 411 Main Ave S., in North Bend is an opportunity for Snoqualmie Valley residents (who can’t afford it) to get their dogs and cats vaccinated.
Valley Animal Partners, a group committed to helping animals and their owners in the Snoqualmie Valley, is putting on the event with help from the Snoqualmie Valley Animal Hospital, Annotto Bay Veterinary Clinic and the Snoqualmie Tribe.
