Last night was one of those high school nights. The kind many Mount Si Football football players will probably recollect and recount for the rest of their lives. For the first time in school history, Mount Si is sending a football team to the Washington State 3A State Tournament Semi Finals at the Tacoma Dome.
You’ve heard the goal talked about all season – getting to the Tacoma Dome. Maybe the goal set over the summer in the weight room, at all those training camps or during long practices. But no matter when that Tacoma Dome destination goal was set, it was achieved around 9:30PM on a cold, rainy November night, under the bright lights of a packed Wildcat Stadium.
And it was team accomplishment celebrated at the North Bend McDonalds – the only restaurant left open after 10PM on a Saturday night in the quiet Snoqualmie Valley.
# 2 ranked Mount Si took down opponent Kennedy High School 38-7, a team they beat in their season opener with an almost identical score of 30-0.
Both the offense and defense shined in the quarter-final victory. Junior quarterback Nick Mitchell completed four touchdown passes and ran for another touchdown. The defense forced 4 Kennedy touchdowns.
Mount Si now faces the #1 ranked Bellevue Wolverines in a semi final game this Friday in the Tacoma Dome. Bellevue is looking for its 5th consecutive state 3A title.
Mount Si won’t be hoping for a repeat of its regular season match up against Bellevue where they lost, 49-10.
Congratulations to Mount Si Football players, coaches and fans on a season to remember. Go Wildcats!
