The Snoqualmie Valley School District recently announced that the Mount Si High Schools’ Speech & Debate Team received special recognition from the National Speech & Debate Association, ranking among the top 20% of schools nationwide and earning membership in the association’s prestigious “100 Club” – a distinction only given to a chapter when students earn more than 100 points and degrees in the speech and debate honor society, based on competitive and service-related activities.
“This milestone is remarkable because it demonstrates outstanding commitment to teaching students essential life skills – including communication, research, listening, writing and organization,” stated J. Scott Wunn, executive director of the National Speech & Debate Association, in a letter to Chelsea King, Mount Si Speech & Debate advisor. “Keep up the great work, and best wishes to Mount Si High School for another successful season!”
Mount Si Speech and Debate has achieved a lot of success in recent years, regularly sending teams to state and even national competitions. Their first competition of the season is this weekend – at the Bear Creek Tournament from October 26th-28th.
