In addition to be named a national finalist in the Essentially Ellington high school jazz band competition this week, Mount Si Jazz is also included in a special, one-night-only live Jazz concert at Seattle’s Parmount Theatre.
Mount Si Jazz will be celebrated as one of the region’s top high school jazz bands at Starbucks 20th annual Hot Java Cool Jazz concert on March 20, 2015.
Mount Si Jazz will perform at the Paramount alongside jazz bands from Edmonds-Woodway, Mountlake Terrace, Garfield and Roosevelt High Schools, in what event organizers describe as a one-of-a-kind concert that benefits each participating school’s music program.
Being part of Hot Java Cool Jazz isn’t an easy feat either. Just to be invited to perform at the event, a school must have previously performed at the Essentially Ellington competition- and then must win a spot through audition. This will be Mount Si’s first year performing at Starbucks local jazz event.
Here’s how Mount Si High School can raise money for its music program:
Starting Thursday, February 19th – March 13th, the Snoqualmie Ridge Starbucks will have 365 tickets ($20 each) on sale for the March 20th Hot Java Cool Jazz concert – and ALL of the ticket sales from this Snoqualmie Starbucks location will go directly to MSHS Jazz Bands.
PLUS… there’s extra incentive for being the school to sell out their tickets the fastest. The school that sells out first gets a $500 gift card to Kennelly Music to spend on music equipment, which according to parents, the MSHS music program could really use.
Any remaining tickets after March 13th will be sold online, with proceeds split between the five participating schools.
Starbucks says since 1995, Hot Java Cool Jazz has raised more than $400,000 for local students and their love of music.
