Mount Si High School Principal, John Belcher, was selected as the KingCo League Distinguished Principal of the Year. The Washington Association of Secondary School Principals (WASSP) awarded Mr. Belcher the top honor, recognizing his deep commitment to his students, their academic excellence and his positive school-community relations.
Mr. Belcher took the head principal position at Mount Si just 18 months ago, having served as Omak High School’s principal for the seven years prior. He also worked for nine years in the Northshore School District as an assistant principal and science teacher. Along the way he also earned his Superintendent Certification.
Mr. Belcher has infused great positive energy into Mount Si in just a short time. He prides himself on his open communication style, listening to all his students and goes beyond his job title when it comes to community outreach in the vast Snoqualmie Valley.
In the SVSD website announcement, Superintendent Joel Aune says, “Principals have a profound influence on a school’s quality of education and the satisfaction of parents, staff and students. They also have significant responsibilities – in terms of scope, magnitude and importance – and extremely high standards to uphold. We are fortunate to have outstanding, capable, caring leaders like John guiding our schools. Please join me in congratulating Mr. Belcher on this well-deserved recognition.”
Congratulations, Mr. Belcher. As a parent of two of your students, I can say this is a well-deserved honor and am glad other principals recognized what so many Snoqualmie Valley parents already know.
