Painted Adirondack chairs popping up around the Valley: Artists, businesses team up for ‘Take a seat for Kids Project’

Throughout Snoqualmie and North Bend, you may have seen them. They travel in pairs, popping up where you least expect them. You can’t help but stare when you see them…

Beginning on May 1st, six pairs of chairs have been on display at local businesses in the Snoqualmie Valley: Salish Lodge & Spa, Sigillo Cellars, North Bend Theatre, Art Gallery of SnoValley, Pioneer Coffee, and Georgia’s Bakery.

All the chairs are for sale through May 31st via online bidding as a fundraiser for Encompass programs: Take a Seat for Kids Project.

Artists Ronda Bergman, Renee Britz (of PostModern Purple), Emily Creed, Andrea Lewicki, Leslie Nan Moon, and Harry Roberts (of Barn Banners) each donated their time and materials to transforming plain Adirondack chairs, generously furnished by Ace Hardware of North Bend, into functional pieces of art.

All the chairs have been weatherproofed and would make one-of-a-kind additions to a porch or backyard.

While all six artists started with the same “canvas,” the results are wondrously diverse. Bergman sanded down her white chair to expose the natural wood grain and burned nature scenes into the wood, echoing her subject matter in her medium and process. Britz also channeled nature, but did it with vibrant paintings of orange flowers and dragonflies. Creed’s mandala design is simple but universal, appealing to a wide audience. Lewicki’s soft billowing colors envelop the viewer in a gentle, impressionistic rainbow of hues. Moon’s chairs feature her signature linocut print method and boldly proclaim a message of self-love and acceptance. Roberts’s chairs are a classic tribute to Americana and our national anthem.
