The Snoqualmie Police responded to a report of a cougar with a dog in its mouth in the area of Snoqualmie
Parkway and Douglas Ave yesterday, March 25, 2013, according to a Living Snoqualmie reader.
Snoqualmie Police Captain, Nick Almquist, confirmed via email that cougar report, but said officers found nothing and there was only one report of the incident received. He also said no one has yet to report a missing dog.
Police do not know for sure that it was a cougar, as they found nothing. Captain Almquist explained that it could’ve been a coyote carrying a rabbit – or something of that nature – as he’s seen that a few times.
There was a separate cougar sighting at Snoqualmie Middle School on March 1, 2013. Police also responded then, but found nothing. A reader also reported seeing a cougar on Snoqualmie Parkway near I-90 (just before Jacobia Street intersection) on March 6, 2013. That sighting was not reported to police, according to the reader.
Cougars hunt deer and elk, which are plentiful in the Snoqualmie Valley. Anyone who sees or encounters a cougar (or bear) is asked to report it to the Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife at 425-775-1311 or call 911.
