Police Say North Bend, Snoqualmie Residents Involved in Fiery I-90 Collision Near Preston

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) is still investigating the fiery, chain-reaction four-vehicle collision that brought westbound I-90 traffic to a halt between Preston and North Bend Sunday afternoon, September 28, 2014. Three Snoqualmie Valley residents involved in the accident were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries.

According to a WSP collision report, a 28-year old North Bend man was transported to Harborview Medical Center after the Jeep Compass he was driving left the eastbound lanes of I-90 and crossed the median into oncoming westbound freeway traffic, causing a Ford Ranger to lose control and rollover. The Jeep then stuck a Toyota Camry head on, causing another SUV to also strike the Camry and burst into flames.

TV news coverage stated good Samaritan bystanders helped the injured and used a fire extinguisher to help fight the fire until emergency crews arrived at the accident scene.

Washington State Patrol said drivers of the Ford Ranger and Toyota Camry were transported to Overlake Medical Center with serious injuries. According to the collision report, they were a 19-year old female and 20-year old male, both Snoqualmie residents. One of the four vehicles involved in the collision was able to be driven from the scene.

Drugs and alcohol were not involved in the accident that closed westbound I-90 near Preston for nearly four hours. Luckily, all drivers involved were wearing their seat belts.

The serious collision snarled traffic on all alternate roadways through the Snoqualmie Valley Sunday afternoon and evening, as drivers searched for alternate routes around the westbound I-90 closure.
