After a 2 1/2 month closure due to COVID-19 social distancing concerns, Seattle Public Utilities announced Rattlesnake Lake Recreation Area in North Bend with partially reopen on Thursday, June 11, 2020.
Sabrina Register of Seattle Public Utilities – which owns and manages the popular outdoor recreation spot – said Rattlesnake Lake will reopen to boating, fishing, swimming and picnicking activities only.
Rattlesnake Ledge Trail will remain closed and hiking is prohibited. This is due to crowding, the narrow size of the trail and the popularity of the ledge viewing area.
Register said, “During favorable weather, more than 2,000 people each day hike the trail, but there is limited opportunity to physical distance safely while hiking the trail and enjoying its outstanding views.”
SPU warned Rattlesnake Lake visitor parking is limited to 70 cars and 10 boat trailers to help maintain social distancing.
The Cedar River Watershed Education Center also remains closed to the public until further notice.
SPU said, “We will continue to post updates and look forward to reopening the trail when it is safe to do so.”

“Physical distancing” is important again?
Only when it suits a particular political agenda……as we have all been witnessing.
Didn’t you know? The virus is at its scariest when you’re outside… in the wilderness… passing by people for three seconds.
Peaceful protest on Rattlesnake ledge
Would “mostly peaceful” suffice?
Remember to wear your muzzle and take a knee when you get to the top!
Muzzles are for aggressive dogs and sure take a knee and give thanks god created such a beautiful place for all to enjoy. Think good thoughts.
Unfortunately, a group graffitied BLM in many places along the trail with spray paint.
i wonder if the lower trail along the lake, that goes past the visitor center is open? we always walk our dog along that loop, and park at the furthest parking lot.
The lakeshore trail is open, but the gate to the furthest parking lot by the Education Center is closed.
