Noticing purple storefronts and windows as you stroll the city streets? Want to know why?
It’s because Paint the Valley Purple began on February 1st and runs until the Snoqualmie Valley Relay for Life kickoff celebration on February 12, 2014 – a day which North Bend Mayor Ken Hearing has even proclaimed as the official ‘Relay for Life Kickoff Day.’
The Paint the Valley Purple promotional competition is an opportunity for local businesses of any size to engage with Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society. Businesses are challenged to decorate their storefronts in purple, the official color of Relay For Life, and participate in promotional and fundraising activities to support this year’s Relay For Life in the Snoqualmie Valley. The business that most actively engages with the competition will be showcased at the event’s kickoff celebration on February 12th at the North Bend Theater.
Relay For Life has been active in Snoqualmie Valley for 13 years now. The close-knit group knows the word cancer has become way too familiar for many Valley residents and families. So they ‘relay’ to support the American Cancer Society and are fighting for all forms of cancer research and ultimately, a cure.
They ‘relay’ this year to “Finish the Fight” and help more cancer victims celebrate birthdays; celebrate those lost too soon; and to recognize all the caregivers who are impacted by the “C” word.
Snoqualmie Valley Relay for Life encourages more people to step forward and join their campaign. Organizers say a Relay Event is something that not only raises cancer research funds, but is also a bonding and healing event as teams work together, logging laps on a track through the night, to reach their fundraising goals.
The annual summer event features survivor and caregiver recognition, entertainment and a special Luminaria ceremony, honoring and remembering those lost and those who care people and families touched by cancer. The 2014 Relay for Life event happens July 12th – 13th at Torguson Park in North Bend.
Snoqualmie Valley Relay for Life invites all community members to their kickoff event on Wednesday February 12th, 5PM, at the North Bend Theatre to see what they’re all about. You can also get more info on their Facebook page.
