It was a busy weekend for search and rescue crews in the Snoqualmie Valley, with three different popular hiking trails lending themselves to lost or injured hikers in just a three-day span.
Seattle Mountain rescue stated via its Facebook page that members helped search for a lost hiker on Friday, March 27, 2015 at Little Si and then were then called out again on late Saturday, March 28th, to look for overdue hikers on Rattlesnake Ridge.
A King County Sheriff’s Office helicopter also helped in the search for the lost Rattlesnake Ridge hikers, along with King County Explorer Search and Rescue and King County Search Dog teams. Just after midnight the hikers were able to get a cell phone call out, which helped search crews get GPS data, narrowing the search area and locating the missing hikers.
On Sunday, March 29th, KCSO Guardian 2 was called to Mailbox Peak to assist in the rescue of a female hiker with a broken arm near the summit of the 4,800 ft. peak. Multiple teams from various Search and Rescue organizations also responded for the mission.
Guardian 2 was able to quickly hoist the injured woman off the mountain top Sunday afternnon and deliver her to the SAR command post at Valley Camp, located about 7 miles east of North Bend.
A Seattle Mountain Rescue EMT provided medical care until paramedics arrived and transported the woman to an area hospital.
The King County Sheriff’s Office provided video of the Mailbox Peak Hoist Rescue, as crews dropped into the area to rescue the injured hiker.
Luckily, there were happy ending for all three missions.
