The City of North Bend is inviting community members to a January 24th open house being held to develop a master plan for new Tennant Trailhead Park. The meeting runs from 6:30PM to 7:30PM Wednesday, January 24th at the North Bend Train Depot, 205 E. McClellan Street.
According to a city press release, the open house is an opportunity for residents to give input and suggestions for the park’s master plan, as well as learn more about the site location, its history, potential uses and improvements, possible funding mechanisms for those improvements, volunteer opportunities for developing the park’s trails and improvements, and how anyone can get involved.
The new 32-acre forested community park is located south of I-90 at exit 31 in the foothills of Rattlesnake Mountain. Thanks to a partnership between the City of North Bend, Si View Metropolitan Park District, King County and the Trust for Public Land, this land was preserved for recreation and education. The partnership that was announced last year kept the land from become a home development.
Tennant Trailhead Park was announced in November and was chosen to honor the Tennant/Gardiner family who are longtime North Bend residents, calling it home since the mid-1800s and owning the property since 1883.
Mountains to Sound Greenway and the Washington Department of Natural Resources have also given critical support for the project – and Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance pledged to donate volunteer hours for construction and maintenance to help build multi-use trails designed to accommodate mountain bikes.
The community meeting is co-hosted by The City of North Bend and Si View Metropolitan Park District.
