Snoqualmie Valley Schools Foundation Luncheon Thursday
Community members and business leaders are invited to attend the Small Hands to Big Plans luncheon, Snoqualmie Valley Schools Foundation’s biggest fundraising event of the year on Thursday, March 28, 2013, at the TPC Snoqualmie Ridge. This year’s event aims to raise over $80,000 for kids in the Snoqualmie Valley School District.
Dr. Nitin Baliga of Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) will deliver the keynote address, sharing insights on how to stimulate the minds of students. The Foundation will also present the 2012-2013 Educator of the Year Awards and highlight school programs and initiatives funded through donor and community support.

Mount Si High School Students Win National Film Award
Emmitt Rudd and Dean Sydnor created a 9-minute film documentary, Education in America: The Reprehensible System, for the 2013 C-SPAN National StudentCam competition and were awarded honorable mention.
C-SPAN representatives from Washington D.C. came to Mount Si last week and, along with Mayor Matt Larson, school and district officials, recognized the high school juniors for their amazing accomplishment.
The film addresses the question, “What’s the most important issue the president should consider in 2013?” The Mount Si film was chosen out of 1,800 entries sent in from over 3,700 students across the country.
Time for a Frank Discussion about Mount Si High School
What is your perception of Mount Si High School’s image? Do your perceptions match reality? Are there areas of improvement that need to be addressed? What does our school community need to do to change old perceptions?
These are the questions the MSHS PTSA and Principal John Belcher want to discuss and answer. They will lead the discussion Wednesday, March 27th at 6:30PM, immediately following a brief Mount Si PTSA meeting.
Honest thoughts and opinions are needed. All subjects are fair game. The goal is to dispel untrue rumors, identify areas that need work and make Mount Si the best high school experience possible for our students
The PTSA email states, “Mount Si is not the same high school it was many years ago, yet some people’s perceptions have remained the same. It is time to re-image MSHS as the excellent school that it is.”
Joel Aune Not Named Finalist for Renton Schools Top Job
The Renton School District announced,Thursday, March 21, 2013, that Snoqualmie Valley Superintendent, Joel Aune, was not one of the final three candidates for its open superintendent position. He was one of six finalists interviewed for Renton’s top job last week.
In an email Randy Matheson, Executive Director of Community Relations for the Renton School District commented, “While a very strong candidate for the position, the Renton School Board did not select Supt. Aune as a finalist for our open position.”
