King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) Sergeant Stan Seo said a serious injury accident involving a car and school bus closed Mt. Si Road in North Bend Monday, September 21, 2015 around 7AM.
Sgt. Seo said the driver of the car was seriously injured, but that all occupants of the bus were fine. He said the road would remain closed for some time while detectives performed an accident investigation.
A Snoqualmie Valley School District spokesperson also confirmed that all students on the bus involved were ok, but the driver and one student were taken to the hospital as a precaution. That student was checked out and released from the hospital, according to a district update.
Area resident Sharen Marshall said the accident happened in the vicinity of 130th and Mt. Si Road and that some residents were homebound until the closure was lifted – that no one was being allowed in or out of the area.
According to King5 News, detectives believe the car crossed the center line and collided with the bus. The injured driver was airlifted by helicopter, which was waiting along with fire and aid crews, at Torguson Park in North Bend.
Parents of middle school children on the bus reported [via social media] that a separate school bus came to the scene and transported all students to Twin Falls Middle School where they contacted parents. Another high school bus was stuck in the accident back up and those students were also transported to Mount Si by a separate bus.
The district reported the seriously injured driver is an adult male and Mt Si Road was expected to reopen around 10:30AM.
