It’s been since 2003 that election night results for a Snoqualmie Valley Schools capital construction bond yielded totals over the magic 60% supermajority level required to pass school bonds. But that changed last night, February 10, 2015.
Members of the Prop 1 School Bond Campaign team, SVSD administrators/staff and school board members gathered and waited for the initial results that were to be posted at 8:15PM.
Around 8:05PM, Superintendent Joel Aune refreshed the King County Elections webpage on his cell phone to find that the results had been posted early – and contained something many administrators and Valley residents had been waiting 12 years to see…. a 61.7% approval rate.
Superintendent Aune stared at his phone smiling and then told board members the good news, with one board member exclaiming, “Are you kidding me? Let me see.” Aune then showed his phone screen as proof.
The school district called the early results “extremely positive.” The sentiment in the room on Election Night was optimistically happy.
According to the SVSD website, “While the initial returns are running above 60%, the election is not yet certain. In each of the last two elections (levies in 2014 and a bond in 2011) well over 1,000 votes were eventually added to the Election Day total for our school district’s ballot measures.”
Approximately 8,500 ballots were counted on election night, which is about 75-80% of predicted voter turnout.
All ballots King County Elections receives that were postmarked by 2/10/15 will be added to the election totals, but the district does expect the election results to be confirmed within the next two days.
The results will be certified on February 24, 2015.
