Snoqualmie Valley firefighters, engines deployed to fight Woolsey Fire in Southern California

Snoqualmie crews at the Woolsey fire say its a smokey day, fueled by heavy winds. They are at the Camarillo Airport standing by for assignment.

ORIGINAL STORY

On Friday November 9th a request for help came in and the State of Washington responded, sending more than 100 fire fighters and 35 engines to California to help fight the devastating wildfires.

The Snoqualmie Fire Department sent engine 281, along with Firefighter Matt Mundy. Joining him as part of Washington Strike Team 5 were Lt. Ryan Dhoore and firefighter Colin Knell from Duvall Fire and firefighter Scott Fleming from King County Fire District 27 in Fall City.

Nine members of Eastside Fire & Rescue and an EF&R engine are also part of the WA strike team. They deployed Saturday under the leadership of EF&R Battalion Chief Dave McDaniel.

Team members left early Saturday morning and arrived safely at Camp Camarillo CA by Sunday.

They were assigned to the Woolsey Fire outside of Malibu, which by Sunday night had engulfed 85,500 acres and was only 15% contained. 177 structures have been destroyed by the fast-moving fire that started Thursday night and prompted the evacuation of thousands.

Washington State sent 100 firefighters 35 specialized engines to help fight the California wildfires.

Snoqualmie Fire Chief Mark Correira said California requested 100 fire trucks from Washington. He said the deployment orders last until November 22nd and are usually for 14 days, but can be extended up to 21 days.

Eastside Fire & Rescue said all firefighters deployed to California have their red card certification.
