Due to Icy Roads, Snoqualmie Valley Schools Closed Friday, January 17th

Due to icy roads and because Friday is a scheduled Early Release Day, all SVSD schools are closed again, Friday, January 17, 2020. Monday is also the MLK Day Holiday, so school swill not resume until Tuesday, January 21st.

Snoqualmie Valley Schools are closed, Thursday, January 16, 2020.

Per the district announcement early Thursday morning: “Due to heavy snowfall currently and worsening road conditions in some areas, all Snoqualmie Valley schools will be CLOSED today, Thursday, January 16, 2020.  All school activities and building rentals are cancelled today, including the school board meeting.”

SVSD said with warmer temperatures in the forecast, they are hopeful regular school schedules will be possible tomorrow.

The district faced harsh criticism from some parents on Wednesday when schools were open on a 2-hour delay while snow continued, along with strong winds during the afternoon.

Wednesday evening SVSD Superintendent Rob Manahan released a message to the community that included an apology for “frustration and anxiety” caused by the decision to open schools.

The message read:

“I wanted to apologize for the frustration and anxiety that may have been caused by my decision to go with a two-hour late start rather than a full school closure today. I appreciate the many comments and suggestions that were shared with regard to helping us evaluate when to close, delay or open schools. I also value the opportunity to learn from this community, and I hear you.

Please know that we examined our data and made the best choice at the time to balance student and staff safety with operating schools. My intention is always to serve our community with the utmost integrity and always with the safety and well-being of our students and staff guiding our decisions.

I also want to commend our dedicated staff. They ensured students safe delivery to and from schools, helped prepared our buildings for learning, and whose care and professionalism in the classroom provided a positive experience for students today.”
