Snoqualmie Valley Venturing Crew and SnoValley Winds Community Band Seeking New Members!

Two Snoqualmie Valley groups are recruiting new members!  Adults, do you play an instrument?  Does your child love outdoor adventure, comradery and leadership opportunities?  Well, then the SnoValley Winds Community Band and Snoqualmie Valley Venturing Crew may just be for you.

The SnoValley Winds community band is looking for more players. Rehearsals begin Monday, October 21st at Mount Si High School from 7 – 9PM.  The band is looking for adult wind players and percussionists.  Those interested don’t need to be professionals, they just need to have played sometime in their past and be willing to come to rehearsals.

Some current members hadn’t played for 40 years and still joined.  It’s like riding a bike: you never forget.  It just takes a ride or two to figure it out again.

Snoqualmie Valley Venturing Crew 115

Snoqualmie Valley Venturing Crew #115 was established in 1987. Venturing is a youth development program of the Boy Scouts of America for young men and women who are 14 (and have completed the 8th grade) through 20 years of age.

Venturing’s purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Each venturing crew has its own specialty.  Crew 115’s specialty is high adventure or any kind of outdoor fun. The program emphasizes team work – learning how much can be accomplished working together.

Activities are broad and are normally driven by adult resources, but also includes some staple activities done annually. The first yearly activity is a snow campout and snowmobile riding. Several pull-behind sleds are loaded with equipment and driven several miles into the mountains.  The trip is preceded by several weeks of snowmobile fleet maintenance and repair. Each member is required to complete a comprehensive safety training program that includes time in the classroom and in the field.

In the spring, the group turns from snowmobiles to sea kayaking. Over several years, crew members hand-built a fleet of sea kayaks. The kayak fleet can accommodate 12 paddlers in 4 double kayaks and 4 single kayaks. Each boat is made of okume plywood, fiberglass and epoxy and took about 60 hours to build. Extensive kayak training is provided to each member, followed by overnight tours all around Northwest waterways, including the San Juan Islands and the inland waters of Washington.
