Orenda (which means the balance of energy between all things) Winery is a partnership of longtime friends, three of whom met in the Peace Corps. Owners Xander and Samantha Kent were actually married at Orenda Winery last summer, with winemaker Mark Bosso serving as the officiant and Orenda partner Brain Bartley acting as the best man.
The four friends say their mission is to find grapes that express complexity, with a balance of bold and subtle flavors. So they’ve partnered with with high elevation vineyards in Washington to source cool climate, late ripening grapes to accomplish that wine mission.
Head winemaker Mark Bosso has spent the past 15 years making wine across Washington and New Zealand, working under the mentorship of renowned Washington winemaker Erica Orr.
Mark’s vision is to create wine in balance with nature and engaging to a
new generation of wine consumers. He says his goal is to meld the perfect balance of French oak with the truest expression of fruit.
According to a press release, Orenda has partnered with vineyards in both Yakima Valley and Columbia Valley, which feature some of the oldest Malbec and Petite Verdot vines in the state.
