Recently, U.S. Representative Kim Schrier visited North Bend and was given a guided tour of the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), which is currently in phase 2 of a major modernization project.
The $35 million, multi-year WWTP High Priorities Improvement Project is a long-term investment in North Bend’s critical infrastructure.
When complete, the project will increase redundancy, decrease plant odor, double treatment capacity, improve employee safety, and comply with stricter State environmental requirements that protect the Snoqualmie River.
WWTP Manager Jeff Leamon and City Engineer Don DeBerg led a tour of the facility. Representative Schrier was given an in-depth look at ongoing plant upgrades, and the entire wastewater treatment process, including collection and conveyance, aeration with naturally occurring bacteria, sludge removal and UV treatment before the cleaned water is released into the Snoqualmie River.
Public Works Director Mark Rigos said, “We were pleased to offer Rep. Schrier this up-close look at the investment we’re making in our WWTP infrastructure system, and all of the ways the modernized and expanded plant will benefit not only North Bend residents but our surrounding natural environment.”
Rep. Schrier represents Washington’s expansive 8th District, which includes communities in eastern King and Pierce Counties and portions of Chelan and Kittitas Counties.
