Wildcat Jazz Celebration at the North Bend Theatre

Guest Post by Linda Grez for the Mount Si Band & Orchestra Boosters

The community is invited to the free Wildcat Jazz Celebration, featuring all 3 Mount Si High School Jazz bands as well as Twin Falls Middle School Jazz Band. Doors open at 6 pm. This event is family-friendly and free admission to all on Tuesday April 26, 2022 at 6:30 pm.

It’s been a fantastic year of live jazz music in our 3 middle schools and Mount Si High School. They have so much to celebrate and want to thank their hard-working student musicians, their families and our entire community for its support.

JAZZ 1 TAKES A BITE OF THE BIG APPLE

We’ll also be sending off our nationally-recognized MSHS Jazz 1 band before they travel to NYC in May.  Jazz 1 was selected as a finalist band for the prestigious Essentially Ellington Competition & Festival hosted by Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City!

Their selection is a tremendous honor and a testament to the incredible work ethic and passion of the students to bring the music to life at the highest level possible.  We know it took years and much family, school district and community support to achieve this honor.

Essentially Ellington is the hallmark program for the largest jazz education network in the world. Grounded in the nonprofit JALC’s 34-year history of educational excellence in jazz, Essentially Ellington has fostered the talent and appreciation for jazz music in over one million young musicians—with alumni including GRAMMY-nominated musicians.

Our Mount Si students will attend classes led by world-renowned Jazz performers and educators including Wynton Marsalis and others with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.  87 High School bands auditioned from across the United States and our Jazz 1 band is one of only 15 finalists selected to participate.

WATCH THEM PLAY IN NYC

Mount Si will play in the Competition program on Saturday morning, May 7th and their performance will be live-streamed free on the big screen at the North Bend Theatre as well as online!

More information on streaming links will be provided at www.mountsibands.org and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/mountsiband or https://www.facebook.com/jazzatlincolncenter

Come help us celebrate the achievements of all our talented musicians and show your Wildcat Jazz Pride!  Enjoy free Celebration Cake and listen to some great jazz tunes.

Special thanks to the North Bend Theatre, our dedicated school Band Directors (Bill Leather, Hannah Mowry, Danny Kolke, Erin Lampe, Dan Taylor and Jason Talbot), our supportive Snoqualmie Valley School District administrators, and the Jazz at Lincoln Center education team.
